Population Health Management leader SPH Analytics\u2019 IndiGO solution was the subject of a recent study in the American Journal of Managed Care. The results confirm the potential for preventing additional heart attacks and strokes by following IndiGO\u2019s predictive analytics and treatment recommendations. The paper also validated the high accuracy of IndiGO\u2019s underlying statistical models. The study followed more than a million members of a large health plan for a period of three years to reach its conclusions.<\/p>\n

According to the Centers for Disease Control, statins are one of the most commonly prescribed classes of drugs and are used by more than 25% of adults over the age of 40. Since national guidelines started using risk to determine who should receive statins, there have been ongoing concerns within the medical community about the accuracy of the risk calculations and whether this might lead to the wrong patients receiving treatment. These concerns were recently underscored by a paper in the May issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Lead author, Rana Tabada, and team reported that the cardiovascular risk calculator currently in standard use overestimated risk by up to five-fold.<\/p>\n
